Jaryd Jensen

Jaryd has worked in video production for more than 10 years in the Chicago area. Inspired by understated and quietly inventive films, he tries to draw on what makes subjects naturally fascinating. Whether it's a mayoral race or an abstract dance, better to be competent and dependable and present the world with material that draws a viewer in simply by being itself.

DANCE

Screened at Dance Camera West, “Sleepless” marries the narrative forms of dance and filmmaking. Taking a step closer, this piece brings the audience face-to-face with the performance—so they can’t look away. Choreographed and performed by Savannah Dunn.

In2020, I filmed and edited the first part of Leah Terada triptych dance film: "On Being". The piece’s focus on slowly losing control allowed me to experiment with my filming and editing style to hone in on a feeling of chaos. Brought to life by Zoe Middleton, the film focuses on the power of dynamic movement.

After collaborating on “On Being”, Zoe Middleton and I came together to work on this atmospheric piece. Wanting to explore dance through creative camera angles, we shot this performance with an experimental edit in mind. The product is a piece that is both whip-smart and vibrant, that draws the eye into the dark….

Filmed during lockdown for Hubbard Street’s Dance Chance, "Somewhere Between" explores the sense of containment and loss that’s been so widely felt over the last few years. Shot to feel claustrophobic, I focused on trying to capture that sense of desperation brought on by one’s own living room walls. Choreographed by Teagan Reed, Performed by Andre Alabastro.
